Looking for a PODS replacement unit?
We offer a variety of replacement options for Beckman Coulter’s discontinued HIAC PODS Particle Counter.

If you landed here looking for a Beckman Coulter HIAC PODS recalibration, rental, or purchase option, you’re not alone. We hear from customers all the time who still rely on their aging PODS units and aren’t sure where to go next.
Good news: we have alternatives available for purchase or rental, and our team can help you transition from your old PODS unit to something more modern with reliable support.
Why Was The PODS Discontinued?
After years of widespread use, the PODS particle counter was phased out due to aging hardward, limited features, and lack of support infrastructure. In short, that means:
- No more manufacturer calibration
- No repair parts
- No new unit availability
Unfortunately, this has left a gap for a wide variety of users that relied on the PODS unit for fluid cleanliness monitoring.

What Now? Your Best Replacement Options
We offer two core categories of particle counter technology that serve as strong replacements for legacy systems like the HIAC PODS:

Laser Diode (Photodiode) Particle Counters

Mesh Blockage Particle Counters
Both the Mesh Blockage & Laser Diode particle counters have their own strengths depending on your use case. For help determining the proper option for your specific fluids and application requirements, please reach out to our team.
Mesh Blockage Particle Counters
This method detects particles by monitoring changes in pressure across a series of fine mesh screens as fluid flows through. As contaminants block the mesh, the system quantifies particle size and distribution based on the degree of restriction.
This option is best for:
- Dark Fluids, Aerated Fluids, and Multi-Phase Fluids
- High-viscosity fluids
- Simple ISO 4406 cleanliness/SAE AS 4059 Table 1 and Table 2 Reporting
Laser Diode (Photodiode) Particle Counters
These systems use a laser beam that passes through a fluid sample. Particles in the fluid scatter the light from the laser, and a photodiode sensor measures the size and quantity of the contamination in real time.
This option is well-suited for:
- Clear or lighter fluids
- Cleanliness code certifications in ISO, NAS, & SAE
- OEM testing environments or manufacturing lines
